Tip of the Week: Getting apps installed quickly on a new PC

Getting a new computer is a wonderful, exciting event in the life of any computer user, that is, until you realize how many programs you have to install in order to get it setup like your old computer (nevermind importing the data from your backups into each program!)

Adobe Reader, Picasa, FireFox, Skype, iTunes, Flash and a host of other applications are all necessary to make a new computer functional these days, but wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to go to each website, download the latest installation program, run the install program then go to the next site?

Well, there is a better way and it FREE! The next time you are faced with setting up a new computer with all the utilities that make it useful, give Ninite.com a try!

(OR buy your next computer from Data Doctors and avoid all of the new computer setup pains!)

Headwhack of the Week: Blocking YouTube's profane comments

YouTube may be home to countless cutesy cats playing the piano, but the video-streaming service definitely has its seedy side.

Specifically, YouTube doesn't filter user comments, and some of them are downright atrocious.  For Firefox users, here is a way to filter out those undesireable comments!

Geek Speak of the Week: Automagically

A term used to avoid explaining a technical process that occurs automatically and appears to be 'magic' to the non-technical user.

Security: Corporate bank accounts targeted in online fraud

Business owners: BEWARE! Criminals have tried to steal an estimated $100 million from corporate bank accounts using targeted malware and money mules.

The criminals may find contact information and an organizational chart of a business online, as well as information about who handles the financial transactions for the company or agency.

So-called "spear phishing" e-mails are sent to the employees who can initiate funds transfers, either wire transfers or transfers through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system.

News: Woman to Broadcast Child's Birth Live on Internet

For many people, it's one of life's most intimate moments. But for a 23-year-old Minnesota teacher, the birth of her first child will be an event open to anyone in the world.

News: Know What Google Knows About You with 'Dashboard'

That whole "don't be evil" thing is all well and good, but when a company's whole goal is cataloging the world's information, it would--at the very least--be nice to know what Google knows about you.

Data Doctors Video on Cnn.com: Smartphone viruses; fact or fiction?

Smartphones are all the rage and quickly going to outpace standard cell phones.  Phones that can check e-mail and surf the Net are awesome but do they expose you to security issues?  Check out this week's segment to get tips on smartphone security.

Opinion:   Why I'm Not Getting a Verizon Droid (just yet)

Dylan F. Tweney of Wired.com says "I've been testing the Verizon Droid for the past few days, and it's an awesome phone. But even though I'm eager to ditch my iPhone and eighty-six AT&T, I'm not going to switch to Verizon for the Droid (just yet).

Weekly Advice Column: What is Windows 7 XP Mode for?

Windows 7 comes with a very useful feature called XP Mode (Professional and Ultimate only) that is an actual full licensed copy of Windows XP SP3 that runs under Windows 7.

This allows those that must still run Windows XP to migrate to Windows 7, but before you jump to conclusions, here's the full story!
