Tip of the Week: Roll your own search engine

If you suffer from TMI (Too Much Information) from Google searches and would like to narrow the sites that you use for searching certain items to just sites that you trust, you are in luck!

A new web search tool called ROLLYO gives you the ability to create personal search engine 'rolls' that you control completely!

Headwhack of the Week: Block web ads with Adblock Plus

In our continuing series on why you should consider using FireFox as your primary web browser comes this week's free add-on: Adblock Plus!

This easy to install add-on gives you back control of what you see when you visit websites that are overrun with web and banner ads! (watch the video on how it works here!)

Geek Speak of the Week: C&C Server

Stands for Command & Control Server and is the single computer that has complete control over all of the infected computers in a botnet. The C&C Server is controlled by the 'bot-master' who decides what instructions they want to send out to all of the infected computers.

Security: Google corrects browser-based Java bugs in Chrome

Google's Chrome browswer continues to gain users and is becoming the primary browswer for many users, but part of the development process is fixing bugs so if you use Google's browser make sure you update it to the latest version!

News: Google TV to be Unveiled Next Month

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google will unveil the Android -based television platform at its annual developer event in San Francisco on May 19 and 20.

News: Boy Scouts to Give Awards for Video Gaming

Gone are the days when the Boy Scouts were rewarded solely for outdoor skills like tying knots and building campfires. The group is now adding two more awards for scouts to win - in video games.

Data Doctors Video: Sharing a mobile broadband connection!

This week's offering comes from our 'department of homemade videos with an iPhone' and talks about the options for those that are waiting for the (now available) iPad 3G.

If you're going to get an iPad, you likely already have a laptop, netbook and/or a smartphone that is wifi capable, so instead of paying for seperate data plans, check out this option!

Mobile App of the Week:
glympse

Every week we will feature a new mobile app for various smartphones that we discover as we go about our business.

This week's app glympse allows iPhone, Android & Windows Mobile users to send very detailed information about where you currently are via text messaging (SMS) so those that are trying to find you can!

Weekly Advice Column: Printing from a Smarthone (OR NOT!)

Smartphones can do just about anything traditional computers can do so why not include printing?  Read this week's advice column before you get too worked up!

This Week's Show: The growing problem of 'Botnets'

Most users of the Internet have no real understanding of the term botnet or worse, have never even heard of them, but every one of us is impacted every day by these rougue networks.

This collection of silently infected computers can be remotely controlled to send out spam, infect more computers or perform a Denial Of Service attackt to bring down targeted websites.

The worst part is that many of you reading this right now hare unknowingly part of a botnet that is attacking your cyber-neighbors on a nightly basis.

Listen in as the Data Doctors explain what these malicious networks are, how you can easily become a 'zombie' in the army and how you can protect yourself from the growing threat of botnets.

Join us Saturdays from 12:00PM-2:00PM (Pacific) on News 92.3 KTAR or listen LIVE via the Internet at KTAR.com  as we discuss your computer questions at: 602.277.5827 or ask your questions during (or before) the broadcast using the ask a question page.
