Poll of the Week: How often do you use the Internet to research a major purchase?

Tip of the Week: Make a YouTube Video Start at the Good Part

YouTube has lots of great content that we all love to share with our friends, including our own 'home movies', but often we must wade through a few minutes of YAWN in order to get to the good stuff.

The next time you are excited about a YouTube video that you find, but you don't want to make your friends sit through the boring beginning, use this tip from PCWorld.com:

Add #t=XXmYYs to the end of the YouTube link, where XX is the number of minutes and YY is the number of seconds.

Suppose that you want the video to start at the 5:45 mark. Just copy and paste the link into an e-mail like you normally would, then add #t=05m45s to the end of it (making sure there are no spaces between the link and the extra code).

That's all there is to it! Now, when anyone clicks that link, they'll jump straight to 5 minutes, 45 seconds (or whatever spot on the timeline you've chosen).

Headwhack of the Week:Windows 7 taskbar; what's running?

Windows 7 can make it confusing to figure out what is a link to an application and what is a running app because of the default settings for the Taskbar.

If you'd like to see more info on the Taskbar, right-click on any blank section of the Taskbar and click on Properties. Next, click on the Taskbar tab to expose the Taskbar buttons option drop down box.  Select Combine when taskbar is full to provide more info until you fill the Taskbar!

Geek Speak of the Week:Handoff

The process of switching to another cell base station as you travel within a cellular network. Many dropped calls occur during the handoff, especially on very busy networks.

Security:Facebook 'likejacking' spam scams continue

The latest scam has appeared as a potentially funny web site. The site in question, which tempts Facebook users with a note in a friend's news feed, claims to show the "15 worst construction mistakes EVER!" Users are greeted with a picture of two urinals placed precariously close to one another, and the instructions direct readers to click on the picture for more. READ ON...

News: Swype Takes the Taps Out of Smartphone Typing

More and more phones are using virtual keyboards on a touch screen, replacing physical buttons. But pecking out a message on a small piece of glass is not so easy, and typos are common.

A Seattle-based inventor thinks he has the answer with Swype!
