HOW CAN I BRING BACK A CORRUPTED FILE, IF IT IS CORRUPTED?

Question

I have a disk full of progrqams I saved. I can open all except one. Message box comes up , and said that the program is either in use by another program (which I don't believe it is), or it is corrupt. This is the only program on the disk, which this happens. I need to retrieve this program. How can I, or Can I "un-corrupt" the program, so I can open it. Appreciate any help. Please email me, thanks.

Answer

This question was answered on January 20, 2004. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

FIRSTLY, IF A FILE IS CORRUPTED, A DIFFERENT ERROR MSG APPEARS THAN THE ONE MENTIONED. IF ANYTHING, RENAME SAID PROGRAM (OR FILE) AND OPEN IT UNDER NEW NAME. A DUPLICATE MAY BE IN USE ON THE HARD DRIVE, CAUSING THE CONFLICT.

AS FOR RECOVERING A CORRUPTED FILE, YOU CAN USE SCANDISK AND DEFRAG TO MOVE PROGRAM (OR FILE) TO AN UNDAMAGED LOCATION. ALSO, THERE ARE SEVERAL UTILITIES ON THE MARKET FOR DATA RECOVERY OF SUCH A NATURE (UNFORTUNATLY, I CANT RECOMMEND ONE)
