Verizon Wireless recalls counterfeit cell phone batteries!

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with Verizon Wireless recently recalled counterfeit cell phone batteries.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) & Verizon Wireless recently announced a recall of counterfeit LG-branded TM-510 cell phone batteries. Verizon is voluntarily recalling about 50,000 items across the United States. The recalled batteries may be counterfeit and susceptible to overcharging, which may cause them to overheat and pose a fire hazard to users.

So far there have been 18 reports of injuries to users and property damage due to these counterfeit batteries. The recalled batteries have a manufacturer/date code of "AEMLLL 02220," "AEMMHH 02220," "AEMLLL 02X25H" or "AEMMHH 02725" and were distributed by Verizon Wireless. The cell phones, which come in black or silver, may have the Verizon Wireless name on the front.

Consumers with the recalled units are advised to stop charging the product immediately and contact Verizon Wireless to receive a replacement battery.
