How to turn off the dialup sound

Is there any way to turn off the dialup sound on win xp when you try to connect to the internet on a dell computer? I went in to modems and turned off volume but I still get the sounds.

This question was answered on December 27, 2004. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
I had to test to confirm you are right, turning the volume "off" only lowers it.
So here's what you do, go to the Modem > Properties >Advanced: Initialization settings field and add this:
M0
That's a M zero
Frankly I don't like not having the reassuring sounds telling me it is connecting, but it works.
