This question was answered on May 26, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
This isn't a problem with your Hardrive.
It sounds like a Device Driver conflict, you need to click the "system" icon in Control Panel,then Device Manager.
If you see any warning icons by Mouse,check to see what other device your mouse driver is conflicting with.
