What is modem volumn control?
Question
When I connect to the internet (log on) my computer makes some awful noises. (11 beeps followed by 8 seconds of loud squawks).
Is there any way to stop these noises ?
Apart from these particular noises my computer doesn't make a sound, which is exactly what I want

This question was answered on June 13, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
This sounds like you have an external modem that is making this noise when you connect to the internet. If this is true you may want to look over your modem and find the volumn control on it. You may wnat to check the modem software (if this is applicable) to see if settings are included that will allow you to mute the modem volumn. That should make a difference.
