What does beeping at startup mean on an IBM?

There is a long continuous beep when i startup my computer...we just reinstalled all the aptiva software so there shouldnt be any problems...but yet..it is very very slow to startup and there is that beep, it goes away when you push enter though....

The IBM Aptiva systems use sequences of beeps at startup to signal system errors. After checking the IBM website, the error of a continuous beep indicates a system board error. Is your system new enough to still be under warranty, if it is this would be the first way to start.
