Why would my computer just shut off while running?

What could be causing my computer to shut completely off when running a program or sitting idle?

This question was answered on April 8, 2007. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
This can be a combination of things my friend. My best guess is your computer may be overheating and this may be due to your power supply going bad or not being powerful enough yo run your computer. The second could be a fan issue, try blowing out your computer, and you may want to have your power supply checked out to see if you need to replace it.
