Why does my memory not return upon deleting my recycle bin?

sometimes when i delete files in my computer and empty my recycle bin the harddisk space doesnt return. this usually happen for large files like 500mb and above. is there anything wrong with my harddisk and is there anyway to recover those lost harddisk space without reformatting? thanks.

This question was answered on April 8, 2007. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

Sometimes with large programs, the add/remove function will not erase the entire program, or there may be files which are stored elsewhere and not in the immediate folder in which you are erasing. There is also the chance it will not show the retrieved memory immrdiatelt, but rather once you have rebooted your computer. You may also want to try going into your drive manually and deleting any folders that remain there of the program type you removed. Give that a shot before reformatting and good luck!!
