How can I stop Scandisk from locking up during my Windows install?
Question
I am installing a new hard drive. 4.3 Western Digial IDE.
The BIOS autodetects it correctly.
FDISK went fine.
FORMAT C: /s went fine.
I boot from a floppy the CDROM works fine. I insert the WIN95
Setup CD. I go to the CDROM Drive and type in setup and ENTER.
The little message about running SCAN DISK comes up. I hit ENTER.
SCAN DISK locks up.
I have a 1 gig Western Digital hard drive I use as a back up.
I have gotten the same results as using the 4.3, except that SCAN DISK locks up in a different place.
I have also tried two different WIN95 Setup CDs.
Any suggestions.

This question was answered on August 12, 1999. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
Try using the switch "/is" after the SETUP COMMAND. Example: setup /is
This will tell the installation program to skip the initial scandisk. You may have some other problem, however, that will manifest itself later in the installation program. If this happens, you most likely have a hardware problem of some sort. (Most likely, motherboard, RAM or possibly the hard drive itself)
Your profile shows that you have an AMD processor. Depending upon the speed of the chip, certain versions of Windows 95 and processors running at 366MHZ or higher have a known problem that requires a patch in order to run properly. You can get all the info at:
