"Windows" key shortcuts to save time and mouse clicks!

What does the "Windows" key do on my keyboard?

This question was answered on July 13, 2000. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

Newer computer systems may have a key that has the Windows icon on it that generally resides at the bottom of the keyboard between the ALT and CTRL keys. The is a "shortcut" key that has specific functions when used with other keys. Here is a brief listing of some of the functions(Some functions may not work unless you are running Windows 98):

Windows key by itself: Display start menu

Windows + D: Minimize or restore all Windows (Win98 only)

Windows + E: Display Windows Explorer

Windows + Tab: Cycle through buttons on taskbar

Windows + F: Opens the Find window

Windows + Ctrl + F: Display find: computer

Windows + F1: Display help for Windows

Windows + R: Open Run window

Windows+ break: Open system properties window

Windows + shift + M: Undo minimize all windows

Other helpful shortcuts that work in virutally any program are:

F1: Help for the current program

F3: Open the Find Window

F5: Refresh the current screen
