Users of Adobe's PageMaker version 6.5x may encounter a System Error when closing the program. Adobe PageMaker 6.5x installed into a Windows 98 or Windows Me environment may return one or more of the following errors:
- "This program has performed an Illegal Operation and will be shut down."
- "PM65 has caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown>."
- "PM65 has caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll."
- "Pm65 has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Pm65 will now close."
If you are experiencing this problem, Adobe's recommended fix is to the CMap files installed by Photoshop 6.0. If you use Japanese fonts, install the updated CMap files available on Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/pmwin.htm.
To remove the Photoshop 6.0 CMap files:
1. Exit from all applications.
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\CMaps
3. Open the CMaps folder, and select the following files:
- Adobe-Japan1-PS-V
- Adobe-Japan-PS-H
4. Choose File > Delete, and click Yes to confirm deletion.
Adobe applications use CMap files to access character sets in double-byte fonts, such as Japanese fonts. The version of CMap files installed by Photoshop 6.0 is incompatible with some Adobe applications, such as Adobe ImageReady 1.0 and PageMaker 6.5x which is what can cause the errors.
