Why won't my laptop start, it says invalid partition table?

My laptop will not start it is a old one but it still works my question is why wont my computer start it says Invalid prtition table please e-mail and tell me what to do

This question was answered on May 21, 2003. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
Did anyone try to install a new Operating system. The partition table is created when a operating system is being installed on a hard drive, if you have an invalid one, maybe someone accidently deleted it. If that is the case you will have to reinstall the OS.
