A firewall is the best way to put a barrier between you and the 2 billion knuckleheads that are also connected to the Internet.

A handful of those knuckleheads are constantly probing the Internet to see which of you aren't properly protecting yourself so they can take advantage of you.

Firewalls are an essential part of the Internet connected computer, but they come in many flavors.
